Fernando is the OPMSA Director of Clinical Affairs Elect. Along with just being a simply stellar guy, these are some of the things he does for you:
- Coordinates, represents and meets with the Class Clinic Representatives.
- Acts as the liaison between students, clinic administrators, and faculty clinicians.
- Assist the Director of Clinical Affairs (Saleena) with the Annual OPMSA Clinical Symposium.
- He's responsible for the OPMSA Instrument program.
- Assists all other OPMSA officers in their duties and responsibilities.
- Attends all OPMSA Executive Board meetings.
- Coordinates the Annual OCPM Spirit Week.
So basically what I'm telling you is that Fernando is kind of a big deal. He'd never tell you that but I'm not him so I will.
Here is what he had to say about himself:
Hometown: Lexington Park, MD
About Me: I went to undergraduate school in Greensboro, NC at Guilford College where I double majored in Sports Medicine and Health Science. While in college I also played football. I absolutely love sports and sports medicine, definitely something I would like to work with through podiatry.
Why I decided to become a Podiatrist: I decided to become a podiatrist because the lower extremities of the body are so precious and important to us that I would like to help people take care of them and keep the lower limbs feeling younger.
My hero: My hero is my mother because she is the hardest working person I ever knew, she never gives up when going gets tough, and she puts people before herself.
My amazing talent: I have an amazing laugh. It has the affect to make others laugh as well, even if they are just laugh at me and not with me.
Advice for new podiatry students: The advice I would give to new podiatry students would be to study hard, try not to stress out about stuff that you cannot handle, and try not live in the past, focus on the present.
Favorite restaurant in CLE: Winking Lizard.
My favorite book: "The Secret" by Rhonda Byrne.
What I do when test weeks are over: When a test week is over, I usually just relax for that day. But the next day I start catching up on classwork or start getting ahead in classes.
My favorite study music: My best study music is R&B music.
If I had 30 mins of free time this is what I'd be doing: If I had 30 minutes of free time, I would mostly likely be watching some sort of medical show on Netflix or Hulu Plus. Mostly likely it would be either Scrubs, Grey's Anatomy, or Nip Tuck.
The best advice I was ever given: "Sometimes to be successful, you must give up who you are for what you will become."
